# Jobs killed by OOM killer well below requested usage

Hi,

I set the job memory to 2GB, however, the process is killed by OOM at a much lower usage.

```auto
$ qstat -fx 1278272 | grep mem
    resources_used.mem = 262144kb
    resources_used.vmem = 1480128kb
    Resource_List.mem = 2gb
    Resource_List.vmem = 4gb

```

On the node I see:

So somehow 2gb seems to be translated to 262144kb… For which I can find no other explanation but that “gb” is interpreted as _gibibit_…

Furthermore, _decreasing_ mem to “1gb” lets the job run fine!

What could it mean?
