# Postgesql version failover

Hi!  
I was upgraded secondary host (to new release of operating system) which was in failover configuration. Now I can not start datastore on secondary. I have: " pbs\_status\_db exit code 1" error .  
Do they need the same postgresql versions on both hosts?  
How to diagnose where the problem lies?

The Primary node is with postgresql 10.23  
The secondary node has postgresql 13.16 installed.

If you could share more about your failover setup and how it is configured and setup?. The community members can share their experiences and feedback.

It is always recommended to have both the failover pairs to have the exact same configuration and version of application softwares and operating system.
