How open is "Open"PBS?

Hi,

I’ve started worrying about the openness of OpenPBS. While initially announced with quite some fanfare, there appears (please correct me if I’m wrong) no succinct description of differences between the “Pro” and community offerings. Even the original announcement URL (still lurking in various Internet corners, https://altair.com/newsdetail.aspx?news_id=11271) returns 404.

Further, a recent discussion clearly indicates some bits of functionality are totally absent in the Github repo, despite being present in a released version of the pro version.

Best,
Evgeny

Hi,

OpenPBS is both Open and active, with lots of downloads every week and continued investments from Altair as well as other contributors. And, both OpenPBS and PBS Pro continue to share a common core (and set of code), but, as you rightly point out, they are not identical. In addition to the commercial aspects of PBS Pro (support, indemnification, …), PBS Pro includes a bunch of add-on features. My quick search didn’t find a comprehensive list, but there’s a nice presentation from SC23 that gives a high level comparison: https://youtu.be/vYfTy-GYjDk
